Revision Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric surgery is usually performed by minimal access surgery using Laparoscopy.
A small video camera and surgical instruments are inserted through multiple (5-6) incisions in the abdomen that are typically 2-3 cms long. The surgeon views the procedure on a video monitor. This approach is considered less invasive than open surgery, resulting in shorter hospital stays and fewer wound complications, such as infection, scarring or hernia.
Studies have found that patients who had laparoscopic procedures experience less pain after surgery resulting in easier breathing and lung function. Patients who have laparoscopic surgery return more quickly to pre-surgical levels of activity.
Dr. Kumaran Chinnappan is American Board certified and fellowship trained in advanced laparoscopic and Bariatric surgery and performs all weight loss surgery procedures laparoscopically.
